Antique Chinese Tripodal Wooden Stool 1910s
Deceptively simple, this early 1900s chair demonstrates the ingenious assembly techniques traditionally used by Chinese carpenters. The chair’s three splayed legs are supported by cross-members that connect in the center in a star shape. This not only provides stability, but also adds a sense of balance and intrigue to the otherwise simple design.A ubiquitous part of everyday life, this rustic chair was used throughout the house for casual seating, both indoors and outdoors. The underside is painted with a Chinese character indicating the owner’s surname.
